A toothache or other dental emergency. Call your own dentist. Dr. Dansie removes wisdom teeth and other teeth; the dentists at each office handle all other care.

Sedation options for wisdom teeth removal

Choose how relaxed you want to be: stay awake with numbing, relax with oral sedation, or sleep through your visit with IV sedation.

A calm, bright dental treatment room

Dan W. Dansie DDS offers three options: local anesthetic, oral sedation and IV sedation. He is certified through Rocky Mountain Sedation to give IV sedation. With oral or IV sedation, an adult must drive you home.

Sedation options, from awake to asleep

Local anesthetic

Wide awake, just numb

Your mouth is numbed and you stay awake. You feel pressure, not sharp pain, and you can drive yourself home.

Oral sedation

Calm and relaxed

A pill before your visit helps you relax. Many patients remember little of it. Bring an adult to drive you home.

IV sedation

Most patients sleep through it

Medicine through a vein in your arm, plus local numbing. Follow the office's eating and drinking instructions, and bring an adult driver.

Sedation questions

Which sedation option is right for me?

It depends on your x-ray, your health history and how you feel about the visit. When you call to schedule, the office talks you through the options, and Dr. Dansie confirms what's safest for you.

Will I be asleep with IV sedation?

Most patients sleep through the entire visit with IV sedation. Your mouth is also numbed, so you're comfortable when you wake up.

Can I drive after sedation?

No. After oral or IV sedation, an adult must drive you home and should stay with you for a while. With local anesthetic only, you can usually drive yourself.

Can I eat before my appointment?

It depends on your sedation. The office gives you eating and drinking instructions when you book. Follow them exactly, especially before IV sedation.

Who gives the sedation?

Dr. Dansie is certified through Rocky Mountain Sedation to give IV sedation, and is also certified to offer oral sedation.
